Hiver 2008 dans le secteur Matapédia

2nd February 2008 to 31st March 2008

These are a few pics that I grabbed on Feb 02, 2008 This is the combined train the Ocean and Chaleur. This train was very late into Matapedia. The middle loco died at Charny with mechanical problems. Then about 10 miles from Matapedia VIA 6411 lost the battle with the snow after the cooling fans filled with snow and ice. So in this pic both the lead and second units are dead with only the Gaspe unit pushing two dead locos and pulling the train. We spotted the two dead locos in front of the station and cut them off then backed up the combined train west of the crossing in Matapedia. The second photo with working forman Dan Lavoie on top of VIA 6411 removing the snow and ice.(the high tech ladder was just used to get a water hose up to the top of the loco) This unit was restarted and the whole consist with the Chaleur continued on to Halifax with Gaspe passengers getting off at Campbellton. This was one of those winter days that are very bad for trains.
